Find Out What Emerging Artist Devon Has Been Up To Lately In Our Latest Interview

During Summer '16 we had the honor to premiere his new video "Off The Ground" and today we're giving fans more of an insight on upcoming artist Devon in our latest interview.

For those who don't know Devon let us at R&B Supreme give you an official introduce with our latest interview:

1. Tell us about yourself and your music?

My Name is Devon. I'm a young R&B artist from Philly. I’ve been singing since 3 but started taking my craft seriously around the age of 13. Since than I've been in and out of studio, doing show after show, non-stop grinding working hard on my craft. I want to prove that I'm next big thing in the industry. I feel like my music is pretty versatile! I think it’s a mixture of the current sound we hear on the radio today and that feel good vibey music you hear everyone saying they miss.  I try to make sure every song has a feeling to it. I wouldn't necessarily put it in a specific genre or category because some of my music I believe can cross over, but of course my roots are r&b & gospel. Most importantly I think that my music tells a story and that’s something I feel my generation has moved away from somewhat and I’d like to bring that back to the forefront of our music again.

2. How would you describe your sound?

I would describe my sound as soulful with a twist of pop.  Sounds weird but as I mentioned before, I don't necessarily want to put my self in a box as an artist. My sound caters to young and older people. I feel I'm in the family tree (as a vocalist) of artist such as Prince, D’Angelo, Maxwell, El Debarge & Smokey Robinson to name a few. Not comparing myself by any means because these are Legends in the game and I have so much more to prove before I can try to put myself in that category however just saying these are artist that cater to ALL types of different genres and crowds. I've studied these artist growing up, there for they are apart of who I am as an artist.

3. Talk about the experience making your single?

I’d like to think of every song on the EP "Tug Of War" as a single because there's video for all 5 songs on it but one of my favorite songs on there would have to be "So High"! I think its definitely a radio ready song. My experience making this one was simple but fun. The process of making music has to be enjoyable otherwise what’s the point. The song “So High” came from a track my producer had already created before we meet. I fell in love with it immediately because of the Eugene Wilde’s sample "Gotta Get You Home Tonight" but a lot of people will remember it from when Foxy used it with Blackstreet singing on the hook. But after hearing that I knew I had to have this track!

4. What are you currently working on? Any new projects? Shows?

I'm currently working on my second EP now! It's almost done actually! I've had people waiting for me to release music for a min so I felt like they deserved to receive as much as I can possibly give right now as far as music, so I dove right into making my second EP after I was finished the 1st one! Don't have a name for it yet but it's a continuation of the story line from the 1st EP “Tug of War”. It's a lot darker and even more honest than “Tug of War”. It will give you a look into a male’s perspective of what we go through when it comes to dealing with a broken heart and crushed ego. I feel like as men we have to show women that even though we don't show it to well, we also go through a tough process when it comes to a broken relationship. So that's what I based the second EP off of. As far as shows I'm excited about being apart of the 1st RnB stage at the A3C Festival in October, a huge festival in ATL that was mainly for rappers however they're doing their 1st r&b stage this year & I was honored to be asked to be apart of it! So I think that's pretty dope!

 5.  What has been your biggest highlight in your music career this far?

I think the biggest highlight of my career so far is releasing my 1st project "Tug Of War"! I've been in some amazing situations however being able to FINALLY present a project that I've worked on so hard is the most I can definitely ask for. For people to hear who I am as an artist and see who I am as an entertainer that is what really means the most to me.  That’s what drives me when I’m away from my family traveling for music and working those late nights sessions in the studio. I love the feedback I've been receiving! Good or Bad it doesn’t matter it's just dope that people have an opinion on my music. It all good because that shows you that people are at least listening and that all you can ask for as a new artist.

6. Name your ideal collaboration: mainstream or independent artist(s)?

I have WAY too many people that I'd love to collaborate with to name them all, however I can definitely name a few. As far as artist I'd definitely like to work with Beyoncé, Chris Brown, Justin Bieber, Kendrick Lamar, Trey Songs, The Weekend, Pharrell, Cee Lo Green, August Alsina just to name a few. I'll even go back a little bit, Babyface most definitely, DAngelo, Maxwell, Rachelle Ferrell who is one of my favorites & Diane Warren!

7. Name something random that people do not know about you?

People may not know that I'm a home body. I like being in the crib, chilling by myself now more than ever. I'm on the move so much and doing so many things at this point that the crib is like a palace when I finally get to chill and relax.

8.  What’s one thing you have learned or discovered while being in the indie music scene/industry?

The most important thing I learned so far is that consistency, regularity & humility are the most important things to have in this day and age of he industry. I know that there's no room to boast and brag about anything especially being a new artist. It's people that have been doing this for decades and are still producing for the industry and the people. So who am I as a new artist to feel puffed up with pride about anything! Be content in that fact that you are good at what you do but never become to big headed thinking you can slack off and get comfortable because there is always someone ready to take that spot and that's more common now than it has ever been.

While we wait for Devon's upcoming project check out his latest visuals for "Never Be The Same" off of his debut EP Tug of War also available below:
