In an email the singer shared with Saint Heron she said: "Lanes was probably one of the last songs we added to Chapters. After working on two songs with Robin Hannibal, he showed me this beautiful track and I immediately came up with the pre chorus and wrote the entire song in 30 minutes.”Lanes” is about a person’s struggle to stay with someone who has a completely different view of having a relationship.”
